» Dutch Oven
Recipe of the Week

This one's not a dutch oven recipe but is real good.

Ingredients
  • cornish game hens
  • bacon

Directions

Wrap the hen in your favorite bacon and wrap in foil. Cook over fire and place in hot but indirect heat for about 25-35 minutes or longer-depending on how hot the flames are. The hen will have a nice smoky flavor from the bacon and remain very moist. Goes with anything.

Troop 175 Welcomes New Scouts

On February 20th, 9 new Scouts completed their Cub Scout journey and joined Troop 175 during the bridging ceremony at the Pack 175 Blue & Gold Banquet. Please welcome the following boys and their families: Lucas Alumbaugh, Grant Scott, Jacob Krahenbuhl, Nick Young, Tyler Robinson, Will Caton, Noah Williams, Timmy Arnold, and Daniel Halvorsen. These young men have made a commitment to complete the trail to Eagle and we will do our best to help them achieve that goal.

Scouts Deserve Trained Leaders

Just a reminder that ALL registered leaders 18 years and older, whether actively participating on the Troop committee or not, need to complete the required trainings for your specific position (The majority of the adults will be registered as a Committee Member) prior to re-chartering. This is BSA policy and could prevent Troop 175 from re-chartering if not completed. Please see the February Troop Newsletter for assistance finding dates and specifics on training. If you have any other questions, please contact Mrs. Martin or Mr. Rissler.

BSA Introduces Centennial Rank Patches

Any Scout who completes the requirements for a particular rank are eligible to wear the new Centennial Rank Patch for the year 2010. These patches can be worn in 2010 only and any further ranks earned after 2010 will revert back to the old patch system.

Historical Merit Badges for 2010

In honor of the BSA’s 100th Anniversary, today’s generation of Scouts have the unique opportunity to experience some of the activities that Scouts of yesterday enjoyed. The BSA’s new Historical Merit Badge Program is a set of four discontinued merit badges that today’s Scouts can earn.

Scouts can earn any or all of these merit badges:

Signaling - First offered in 1910 and discontinued in 1992.

Tracking - First offered in 1911 (as Stalker merit badge) and discontinued in 1952.

Pathfinding - First offered in 1911 and discontinued in 1952.

Carpentry - First offered in 1911 and discontinued in 1952.

There is one catch: Scouts must start and finish all requirements within the year 2010. So don’t delay—after Dec. 31, 2010, these merit badges will go back on the "retired" list.

Welcome to Troop 175

Boy Scout Troop 175 has been serving the Blue Springs, MO community since 1992. Since then, our program has helped over 60 boys attain the rank of Eagle Scout. Our Troop has an active outdoor program that includes monthly campouts, summer camp at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation, and high-adventure trips to places such as Colorado, Philmont Scout Ranch, and the Boundary Waters of northern Minnesota. These programs offer our young men unique experiences and are designed to be safe and fun while teaching them the values and morals they will need in order to become valuable assets and good citizens in both our community and nation.

We are chartered (sponsored) by Timothy Lutheran Church and we meet on Monday evenings from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Timothy Lutheran Church South located on the northeast corner of Wyatt Rd. and South 7 Hwy. in southern Blue Springs, MO. However, despite our affiliation with the church, all religious denominations are welcome in our troop.

How Do I Join????

Boy Scouting is open to any boy between the ages of 11 and 18. For more information please feel free to drop us an email by clicking HERE or visit one of our weekly meetings.

How Can Parents Help???

Active, committed Leaders and parents are the heart and soul of a successful Troop and our Troop is no different. We welcome any and all new adult leaders who are willing to give of their time. Whether it is in a simple volunteer position or in a leadership role, you don't need to have any special abilities to make a huge difference in a young man's life. If you choose to become a leader, we will make sure that you are provided with any necessary training in order for you to perform in a variety of leadership roles.
